The development of new helicopters based on earlier models is normal practice nowadays, and is no longer surprising. The origins of the Eurocopter EC 145 are downright obvious: the cockpit is from the EC 135, which contains the MEGHAS electronics and full-colour LCD screen. In an effort to make the conversion from the EC 135 to the EC 145 as easy as possible, Eurocopter based the cabin layout on the logical arrangement adopted for the Airbus pilots' cabin.
Other components of the EC 145 (including turbines, transmission, rotor system and tail section) are modified versions of the assemblies used in the proven BK 117B-1.
In contrast to the EC 135 the new machine abandons the Fenestron in favour of the former arrangement with a high-set tail rotor. This still offers 6.6 feet (just on 2.01 m) of ground clearance at its lowest point.
Improvements to passenger accommodation were also made inside the fuselage, where eight regular seats (optionally nine) are fitted; a variable arrangement accepting a maximum of two casualty stretchers is also possible.
As with the BK 117C-1, the EC 145 represents a joint project between Eurocopter France and Germany, and also involves the Japanese company of Kawasaki Heavy Industries.
The EC 145 kit contains a 13-part fuselage with removable tail boom, aluminium landing gear, glazing set, and the complete power transmission including 6 mm Ø stainless steel tail rotor drive shaft for the version designed for X-Treme mechanics.
Please note: if you wish to install an existing mechanical system or the mechanics from a trainer helicopter, it is essential to adjust the reduction ratio to suit the model.
The full power of your motor can only be exploited if the reduction ratio between gearbox and rotor is correct:
X-Treme 11.2 : 1

The model illustrated is fitted out with optional scale accessories. The model is supplied in kit-form, i.e. not assembled.
